The Oktoberfest is over, here are the results

The 2011 Munich Oktoberfest was a great success, almost perfect weather, apart from the first Sunday. This year Oktoberfest was from 17th September till 3rd October. One day longer due to a public holiday for German re-unification.

Records set.
6.9 million vistors
7.5 million Mass bier
118 Ox roasted
about 500,000 grilled chickens
and few hundred thousand Mass bier glasses stolen

I am transferring hosting companies after 14 years, and have been looking at some of the code I used in pages from 2000. So some changes have been made. The launch date will be shown here shortly.

200th Munich Oktoberfest

This years Oktoberfest held in Munich between September 18th and October 4th was not quite a record, but very near. One day longer than normal, due to the German day of reunification on 3rd October. The number of visitors was recorded as 6.4 million. The record was in 1985 with 7.1 million. About 7 million Maß beer, or nearly 12.5 million UK pints was drunk.

If you are a vegetarian, sorry but there were117 Ox, hundreds of thousands of chicken, and I lost count of the pork knuckles consumed. Local business and city city expect to earn about €950 million Euro's.

Visiting Munich this week? Thursday is a religious holiday

This Thursday 11th June is a religious holiday in Munich, Bavaria and most Catholic areas. It is called "Fronleichnam" and means shops and banks will be shut. Make certain you have your shopping done today or wait until Friday. Many shops open from 10.00am

1st October, you need a pollution sticker from 1st October 2008

If you plan to drive into Munich, inside the inner ring road, from today you need a polution sticker in your car etc, or you can be fined €40. You can buy this direct at any Tüv station for €5 or purchase by post. The information can be found here.

Munich's 850th Birthday

Not really Munich, but interesting

Musical Showstar 2008 final was held on Friday 19th April on the German TV channel ZDF.

ZDF created a show for the recruitment of two people to join the show Starlight Express in Germany.

The show was hosted by Thomas Gottschalk and was one of the best TV shows I have ever seen. It had drama, passion, humour and also involved the public. If any TV channel in the world is looking for a new show format, this could be a winner.
